Parking for bicycles

It’s best to park your bicycle in a covered bicycle parking area. There you can park easily and safely, without causing any obstruction.

Only need to park for a short time? Then you can use a bicycle rack, bicycle stand or marked bicycle parking space.

Please note: in some places, parking is not allowed.

Where there is always a parking ban

Some places always have a parking ban for bicycles, scooters and e‑scooters. You can recognize these zones by a special traffic sign.

These signs are located:

  • At Rector De Somerplein and surroundings
  • On Grote Markt and surroundings
  • At Margarethaplein and surroundings
  • At the Vesalius site
  • In the Savoyestraat
  • In the station area:
    • Martelarenplein and surroundings (e.g. beginning of Bondgenotenlaan, beginning of Maria-Theresiastraat, beginning of Diestsestraat)
    • Martelarenlaan near and on the Benedenplein and surrounding area (beginning of Ernest Solvaystraat, beginning of the bicycle bridge connection)

AttentionYou may not park here even for a short stop, for example to quickly run an errand.

Where a temporary parking ban applies

During events such as Hapje-Tapje, it is prohibited to park your bicycle, scooter, or step in or around the event area. Traffic signs will indicate this.

Where this is a nuisance or dangerous

These are places where your bicycle, scooter or step obstructs access or creates a dangerous traffic situation.

When will the police take away your bicycle, scooter or step?

  • If you park where it is always prohibited.
  • If you park where it is temporarily prohibited, e.g. due to an event.
  • If you park at a bicycle rack or parking space for more than 3 weeks without moving.
  • If you park in an obstructive or dangerous way.
