Report your stay as a border student with the nationality of an EU or EEA country or Switzerland

This is your situation:

  • You have the nationality of an EU country, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway of Switzerland.
  • You reside in France, Germany, Luxembourg or the Netherlands.
  • You wish to report yourself as a border student.

After you have reported yourself as a border student, you will receive an 'annex 33'. It is valid for 1 academic year. Are you staying in Leuven for more than 1 academic year? Report yourself with the city every academic year.

How do you report yourself as a border student?

Step 1: Gather the documents

Digitally or on paper?

You provide the documents all in hard copy or all digitally.

  • For digital documents: first go to step 2.
  • For paper documents: go to step 3.

Which documents?

  • National identity card or passport
    You may not provide it digitally. Bring the original with you to your appointment.
  • Proof of enrolment at the college or university
    An admission letter is not proof of registration.
  • Previous 'annex 33'
    If you previously reported yourself as a border student in Leuven.
  • Official proof that you reside in France, Germany, Luxembourg or the Netherlands
    If you do not have the nationality of the neighbouring country where you reside. E.g. a valid residence card or a certificate of residence
  • 1 passport photo
    • The photo is no more than 6 months old.
    • Pay attention to the requirements.
    • Do you not have a digital passport photo? Bring a paper one with you to your appointment.

Step 2: Submit digital documents

  • Do you have all the documents digitally?
    Provide them to us in advance. That way, we can go through them together during your appointment.
  • In some cases you must bring the original document with you to your appointment

This is not yet an application for your stay
We don’t do anything with these documents as yet. We keep them for a maximum of 6 weeks, after which they are deleted. We will only go through the documents during your appointment at the city office.

During your appointment you immediately receive an ‘annex 33’ as residence document.

    • If you don’t have a digital photo which meets the requirements.
    • Do you not have a photo? There is a photo booth in the city office.
  • Documents for your report
    • If you have all the original documents in hard copy, you bring them with you.
    • If you provided them digitally in advance, we already have them and we will go through them together during the appointment.
