Attention You should preferably come to Belgium with a type D visa
Do you still wish to apply for your visa in Belgium? Keep in mind that the application procedure may take a long time, and that the city or the Immigration Office of the federal authorities may refuse the visa application.

For whom?

You meet all 3 conditions below:

• You do not have the nationality of an EU country, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland.
• You are coming to Belgium for more than 3 months.
• You do not have a visa type D for one of the following reasons:
  • You do not require a visa for short stay.
  • You hold a valid residence card of another Schengen country.

Not intended for:

• Foreign students
  Are you coming to Belgium to study at a Belgian university or college? Then you register as a foreign student.
• Application for family reunification with a family member who is a citizen of an EU country, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland
  Are your coming to Belgium to apply here for family reunification with your family member? If so, you immediately submit an application for a change of residence status from short stay to a long stay of more than 3 months (you do not need to report your short stay first).

How to register?

1. Report your short stay
   • Report your short stay.
     You may only report to the city, not to the federal authorities.
   • State in your application that you wish to submit an application for long stay during your short stay (e.g. so as to work in Belgium or for family reunification).
   • We will provide you with the necessary information regarding your application for long stay.
2. Submit your application for long stay
   Before the period of your short stay expires, you submit your application for long stay.
